Human Hair Extensions

As is said, a good hairstyle accentuates a person's overall look, making the person center of attention at any event or social gathering. Let's face it, everyone, right from a celebrity to general people going through with their daily lives give a lot ( sometimes disproportionate amounts ) of attention to their hairstyle. However, there is also a simple fact that for a particular hairstyle, lots of other requirements should be sufficed such as the hair should be of a particular type, texture etc. To fulfill the above mentioned requirements, human hair extensions are available and are widely used by people of all age groups, with the majority of the users being females. Along with use for hair styling, hair extensions are also used by people for adding length or for giving fullness to their hair.

Human hair extensions today are available in various colors, texture, strand length etc and totally mirror natural human hair. Until some years ago, hair extensions were difficult to maintain and needed special care during use. However, modern day extensions come with no such prerequisites. These are fit for being shampooed, dyed, if need be straightened and many more. This is perhaps also the reason for the increasing popularity of these amongst people.

What kind of hair is used to make extensions?

Hair extensions are made from various types of hair differentiated on the basis of their accumulation from the donor's head. To elaborate,
  • Remy(remi)/cuticle correct hair – Probably the best type of hair used in hair extensions. It is accumulated by carefully being braided or dyed before being cut from the donor's head. This ensures that all cuticles are properly aligned, thus eliminating any chance of tangling and matting
  • Non-remy/ fallen or brushed hair – It is generally collected from cutting room floors, hair brushes and all such places where long hair can be found
  • Single drawn hair – It is collected by placing it in a pony tail or braid before being cut from the donor's head.
  • Double drawn hair – The distinguishing feature of this is that it is of similar length, all short hair is generally drawn out during the collection process. The most beneficial attribute of double drawn hair is that users always get the length they want without the hair being too thin at the bottom.
Methods of adding extensions to natural hair:
  • Fusion – In this method individual keratin-tipped strands are fused to natural hair using heat
  • Tape in hair extensions – In this method, wefts of hair extensions are attached to sections of natural human hair generally using double sided tapes
  • Weave – In this method , a person's natural hair is braided in rows from ear to ear and the wefts of hair are woven along with threads onto the braids
Some in-fashion hairstyles using hair extensions:
  • Layered hair style – This term encompasses long layers with side bangs, volume, face framing layers, medium layers, chin length layers etc. Generally this style gives a noticeable feminine touch
  • Dip dye hairstyle – This styles gives a variety of looks ranging from elegant to rebellious
  • Spring plait hairstyle – Gives a classic European retro look.
  • Mermaid waves – Popular nowadays owing to the exotic look these provide
